A “Fluid” Commuter Station for the Borough of Arima
Building Model - Dwight Douglas
The Borough of Arima - which means water - is located on the foothills of the Northern Range in Trinidad and approximately 16 miles east of the capital city, Port-of-Spain. It is one of the earliest settlements on the island. Arima, historically the hub for the outlying districts, saw the inauguration of the first railway line in Trinidad for both passengers and freight. Its economy is now an industrial one, with the establishment of factories and housing estates along the outskirts of town. The area remains home to much of Trinidad's Amerindian population. Dwight Douglas shares his design of an Intermodal Commuter Station for the Borough.

Design Goal:
The built form should visually allow individuals to be empathetic about the structures meaning without knowing its functional obligation. It should improve public transportation for users on the Eastern corridor. The hub system is supposed to be a full nexus of functional areas. The goal is to make the Commuter station be a magnet that attracts and assists the country’s population on the Eastern Urban corridor.
